Day 134 – Waterloo to Bowling Green

While we originally planned on skipping Indiana, we woke up Sunday morning and decided we’d drive a little out of our way to at least spend a couple of hours and make it our 21st state. We ate lunch in Angola, then headed south to Butler before heading east into our 22nd state, Ohio. We spent the night in Bowling Green to rest up for a busy week.

Day 135 – Bowling Green

Monday was a long work day from the hotel, with a lazy dinner from Buffalo Wild Wings right next door.

Day 136 – Bowling Green to Sandusky

Our original plan for Tuesday was to visit Cedar Point, but the weather was not cooperative, so we quickly replanned the week and made Tuesday another work day, with a mid-day drive to our next destination, Sandusky.

Day 137 – Sandusky to Chagrin Falls

Wednesday was a day off to visit the Roller Coaster Capital of the World, Cedar Point. We were incredibly lucky to have great weather and hardly any crowds, so we were able to ride almost every major roller coaster in the park, including some of the tallest, fastest coasters in the world. By about 5pm, we were worn out, so we hopped back in the van to drive to a cute town just outside of Cleveland, Chagrin Falls. We ate dinner near the falls then spent the night with Tracey’s lifelong friend Jenny.

Day 138 – Chagrin Falls to Cleveland

We spent the morning at Jenny’s house, so Michael could work while Tracey spent some quality time with Jenny. After lunch, we took a few hours to explore Cuyahoga National Park, our 14th National Park on this trip. Our first stop was Brandywine Falls , then we moved on to do the Ledges Trail Hike. After making the scenic drive north through the park along the Cuyahoga River, we continued on into Cleveland to stay at our hotel downtown, just across the street from Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Indians.

Day 139 – Cleveland

Friday morning was spent working from the hotel, before heading out to explore downtown Cleveland. The main destination for the day was the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, located on the shore of Lake Erie. We got a bonus by getting to see the Thunderbirds practicing over the city for an airshow planned for the upcoming Labor Day weekend.

After the Rock Hall, we continued walking over the Veterans Memorial Bridge into Ohio City to visit the Westside Market, and to eat dinner at the Great Lakes Brewing Company. Then we took a brisk walk back to our hotel downtown over the Hope Memorial Bridge.

Day 140 – Cleveland to Erie

Saturday we drove out of our way so Michael could visit the Professional Football Hall of Fame in Canton. Tracey opted out and did laundry while Michael explored the Hall. Afterwards, we took the back roads to our campground just outside of Erie, PA, where we settled in for a relaxing evening.
